French sculptor and artist Christian Boltanski once remarked: "The task is to create a formal work that is at the same time recognized by the spectator as a sentimentally charged object. Everyone brings his own history to it."
An insatiable appetite for expression in colours has always been there in Bonny Mathew's genetic code. Growing up in India, he was enchanted by the irradiated world of traditional art, particularly that of European and American masters' oil paintings and watercolours.
He loves to travel and explore new locations and subjects, it has become his passion to capture the mood of the scene in lights and shade, using subtle colour schemes. He is one of a small group of artists in the United Arab Emirates working en plein-air but he is equally comfortable painting in the studio.
Stories told in oil, watercolor, and casein, with an honest favoritism to watercolor. However, he does not want to be restricted by the medium in the artistic journey. Choosing a medium is personal as it varies with the subject matter for the painting.
Enjoys solo outings to the nature to capture the play of sunlight, drawing infinite permutations of shadows & reflections across the seasons. Reading and travelling to explore newer locations to kindle new ideas and techniques for painting. He regards nature as the best school and a compassionate teacher for any student of artistic longing.
