Bonny Mathew, born in Kerala, a southern state in India has shown his talent to draw and paint right from childhood.
Over the years he became a self-taught artist in watercolor. He pursued a career in Finance, after becoming a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1997. Right through his profession, art has been following him as a distant shadow. His inspiration in art has been various, be it a cast shadow on a sunny morning, waves of the ocean, clouds or whatever.
Whether in the university, during student days or in work place, he has found opportunities to make figurative sketches and caricature. Most impressionist painters like Van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne have had a great influence on his philosophy of perceiving subjects and their fast depiction onto paper.
It came as a revelation that watercolor was able to test one's skills to the extreme while experimenting with the styles of contemporary artists. Love of watercolor turned the artist to explore more with the medium, the end result being winning awards and gaining popular acclaim in a short time.
His passion has always been to capture the mood of the scene in light and shade, with subtle color schemes. Plein air painting has become his forte, thus transferring the energy of the place onto paper in rapid brush strokes. His quick ascent to fame is attributed to the dedicated attention to the medium to bring out the magic and mystery every time. His watercolor works have the finesse, mystery and magic every artist would aspire for.
